joanne01Joanne Sasvari is a Vancouver-based independent writer who covers food, drink, travel, fashion, health and other lifestyles topics for a variety of publications.

She has written the In Good Spirits column for The Vancouver Sun since 2006, and has has been writing the Sun’s monthly Savvy Style features since Fall 2012. Since becoming a full-time freelance writer in 2006, she has also contributed to Wine Access, The Globe and Mail, Los Angeles Times,  Western Living, Canadian Living, TASTE, IMPACT, Alive, Real Weddings and the Postmedia Networks, among others.

Prior to that, she was the senior lifestyle writer at the Calgary Herald (2002 to 2006), and before that held a variety of editor positions at publications across Canada, including: Projects Editor, Travel Editor and Weekend Post Editor at the National Post; Managing Editor at Homemakers Magazine; Entertainment Editor at The Province (Vancouver); Copy Editor at the Calgary Herald Sunday Magazine; and Assistant City Editor at the Medicine Hat Daily News.

She is also the author of the culinary-travel-memoir Paprika: A Spicy Memoir from Hungary (Canwest Books, 2006), was the national president of the Travel Media Association of Canada (2010 to 2012) and TMAC’s British Columbia chapter chair (2007 to 2010), and she is currently studying the Advanced Level of the WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) program.

In addition to her editorial work, Joanne also produces content for the Tourism British Columbia website http://www.hellobc.com, as well as for Tourism Richmond and for JI Communications, including the monthly Wickaninnish Inn newsletter.
